AI, the cloud, and why cybersecurity comes first
The Killian Law Group is a law firm that specialises in personal injury. If an individual has been injured due to the fault of another in a motor vehicle collision, a truck accident or a motorcycle accident, they should give us a call. We also represent individuals injured or hurt on the job, and victims of a physician’s mistake — we go after hospitals, medical institutions and nursing homes that cause injury to their patients through no fault of their own. We represent individuals in criminal defence matters, and we have a fantastic immigration department serving the community all over the DMV.
One of the things that always comes to mind when I decided to become an attorney is helping people. One of my best friends growing up was involved in a horrible trucking accident, where he had multiple surgeries on his face and literally had to have his hand put back together piece by piece by this huge trucking company. It was almost like David versus Goliath — the institution and the system and this trucking company, with armies of lawyers and insurmountable finances behind them, going against my best friend who had to go through so much just to be compensated. Later in my career, when I saw individuals having to go through so much dealing with immigration matters, with the hearings and the paperwork and the documentation, I saw right away that there is this huge system out there against the little guy.
On technology, I can give you an example of how we leverage AI today. When we started this about 13 years ago, something as simple as writing a letter of representation to an insurance company meant a paralegal had to write it, type it out, print it out, have an attorney sign it at the bottom and then send it. Now, with some of the systems we have put in place working with Klik Solutions, all we have to do is put in a person’s name and date of accident, and it populates a document that gets sent out. Sometimes we do not even have to print it — we use our eFAX system to get it straight to the insurance company. Something that used to take a paralegal 20 minutes we can get done in three.
None of this would be something the partners here would feel comfortable doing if we did not have the proper cybersecurity team behind us.

In leveraging the cloud, or moving to a continuously autonomous system that is AI-driven, it is so important to have the proper security. One of the reasons we are expanding the way we are in AI and technology — and Klik is a big part of the help with our expansion into our Colombia office internationally — is that none of this would be something the Killian Law Group or the partners here would be willing to do, or feel comfortable doing, if we did not have the proper cyber security team behind us to make sure our clients’ information is protected and that operations and logistics are streamlined.
So the one thing I would say to any business person considering moving to the cloud, leveraging AI and taking advantage of all the systems out there, is to make sure they have a proper team behind them.
