A walkthrough of the new Towson headquarters

This is going to be our new headquarters. Coming later this year, in December, we are moving from our headquarters in Baltimore to Towson. Join me on an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of our new space.

You walk in from the common area, which will have a really cool kitchen and shared meeting space — we do a lot of chit-chatting and talking here at Klik. Then there is my office, with a desk out front and a bar area, because I like a beverage once in a while, and a little common meeting area for sync-ups with team members. Check out the view you get across Towson. If you look further out on that billboard you will see one of my favourite clients right down there, Killian Law Group — big shout out to Alex and Rob.

Over here we came up with something unique: small private offices that work as call rooms, so anybody who needs to make a call or talk to a customer has somewhere to do it. Then a whole bunch of cubes, six or eight, for our sales team, plus some additional private offices. As we bend around this way the dynamic changes — we have gone from the administrative and sales side to where all the technical magic happens.

In here will be cube areas for our technical team supporting our customers. As you know we provide 24×7 support, and a lot of our team members will be based here as we consolidate several of our locations. We are on the top floor, so there are great views of Towson, including a direct view of the courthouse — and we have a lot of law firm clients in this area. There is also a huddle room for four or five people to meet and discuss how we can better service our customers, because that is the most important thing here.

A lot of our clients do not know that we have loaner equipment in case of emergency. A lot of our competitors do not do that.

This next room is going to be highly secure, locked, with special access required. This is where we store our customers’ equipment. Whenever anything gets shipped here — whether it belongs to us, belongs to the customer, or is in that transition phase before it goes to the customer — it is stored here and inventoried. A lot of our clients do not know that we have loaner equipment in case of emergency, so we stock laptops, PCs, network switches, access points, servers and storage devices. If a customer has an outage, we can provide loaner equipment while they work out what needs to happen. A lot of our competitors do not do that.

Probably the area that is not so exciting for most people but is fairly important is our server and test room. A lot of people do not know that we do a lot of research and development in-house. We like to break things, fix things and stress test things, and we are always looking to develop solutions for our customers. This will be a climate-controlled server room that lets us put equipment in, stress test it, run labs and vet things before we implement them for clients, to make sure they do not cause issues. There will also be a glass view so people walking by can see it. This room will be highly secure and locked too.

Construction has already begun and is well underway. There is going to be some really cool lighting and a lot of nice features. We are going to have a grand opening event — we are sharing this eighth floor with Chesapeake Search Partners, so a big shout out to John Gary, Johnny Black and the rest of the team. Imagine an entire eighth floor of food, drinks, mingling and a DJ. Stay tuned for more information.
